Last week the Swan Energy team attended a Verifiers Training Course at Lucidean Head Office in Stoke-On-Trent. This is an annual event which updates Lead Verifiers, and those in training to be verifiers, about any changes to legislation. It also offers the opportunity for verifiers to catch-up and network.
It’s a mandatory requirement for companies who fall under EU Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS) to report annual emissions data and many organisations then choose to be independently verified. Lucideon is one of the leading organisations which is fully accredited by UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) to provide independent, third-party verification services,
There were 14 delegates attending the training event in total, including our Managing Director, Andrew Park, and our Carbon and Energy Analyst, Sarah Fryer. Andrew has been a Lead Verifier for many years and currently verifies over 15 sites across England and Wales. Meanwhile, Sarah is currently training and working towards being a verifier.
Sarah is now into the second year of her three years of training. Whereas last year she could only go out and observe Andrew on verification visits, now she can go onsite and do the verification herself, under the supervision of Andrew. By next year, Sarah will be able to go out and do the verification with Andrew then signing off everything back in the office. When Sarah is fully qualified, she’ll be the youngest Lucideon Verifier, which will be quite an achievement!
If you’re a business that is looking to talk to Swan Energy to find out more about how we can help ensure you’re fully compliant with all aspects of the EU ETS and EU ETS opt-out scheme, we hope that this update offers some reassurance that we are well-placed to help. Although we don’t verify our own clients (as this would be a conflict of interest) we understand the requirements to meet the verification standard better than many.
