HMRC Carbon Tax Technical Note Updated

HMRC Carbon Tax Technical Note Updated

After hearing last month that if the UK exits the European Union without a deal on 31 October 2019, a Carbon Emissions Tax will commence on 4 November 2019, we have received notificaton that the HMRC Carbon Emissions Tax technical note has now been updated to reflect this.

The updated note also includes further details relating to emissions reporting obligations and tax payment.

In the recent communication issued on behalf of the UK Government from Natural Resources Wales it says: "All operators and users of the UK’s Union Registry or Kyoto Protocol National Registry should ensure they are prepared for the possibility the UK leaves the EU without a withdrawal agreement on 31 October. They are reminded to carefully consider the advice set out in the Technical Notice on meeting climate change requirements if there’s no Brexit deal."
